BUNNELL -- Growing connections between Flagler and Volusia counties are a good thing for municipalities, at least according to Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts.
Speaking at a "Meet the Mayors" forum at the Flagler County Association of Realtors on Monday, Netts said the March designation by the U.S. Census Bureau of the Palm Coast/Daytona Beach/Port Orange urban area offers a regional approach to local issue.
"It is obvious we are talking about regionality," he said. "We can jointly look for answers to problems that we face."
Netts said Flagler County's jobless rate is one such regional problem.
Acknowledging the county's high unemployment rate, Netts said the solution goes beyond Flagler County's borders.
"A fact that we don't often talk about is that 40 percent of the unemployed in Flagler County never worked here," he said.
